Personal Trainer Education
In order to be a Personal Trainer you must posses the skills needed to be a successful trainer. You should be patient, caring, organized, motivated and a good listener. Being a fitness trainer does require discipline ad determination. The education of a personal trainer starts with a high school diploma or the GED equivalent. Then the certification of a personal trainer needs to be attained through an accredited organization. Sometimes a trainer will also take specialty training courses, and some even continue on to get their college degrees in health education or one of the sciences. This will allow for the trainer to make a substantial amount more in their salary.
Most certification programs require that the student have a high school diploma or the GED equivalent, be CPR certified, and be at least 18 years old. The salary of a personal trainer can vary from $50-$75 per session, which could be anywhere from 40,000 to 70,000 a year. If a fitness trainer has more certifications or a degree the amount could be more.
The information that a fitness trainer is expected to know for a certification exam is exercise science, risk factors, instruction and spotting techniques, lifestyle modifications, screening and fitness assessments, nutrition and exercise programs. The cost for an exam can be anywhere from $220 -250 for the first time exam, and $150-200 for a repeat exam. There are organizations that have study aides and tutoring that can help with the exam.
Many trainers started out by working in gyms and health clubs with minimal pay helping to train people, then they realize that there is money to be made In the fitness field and they go to get certified and some even go on to get their degrees in exercise sciences.
